No.4 cover art?
« on: March 18, 2010, 10:38:35 AM »
This cover must be influenced by Neil Young's "Hawks & Doves" right? Have the band commented it in any way?

I didn't notice this until recently....

Wow..good find. It looks way too similar. Never heard the band comment on it though.
Have a coke and a smile and shut the fuck up.

That Star design was pretty ubiquitous around that time though, I remember lots of peeople had t-shirts with it on that were nothing to do with STP.

I was quite surprised that they used it for their album cover.

Never saw that but there was a bit of controversy at the time because of a band called Powerlloyd (I believe-I can't find anything on Google) who had a similar album cover.  I believe they were angry and even tried to sue STP.

In doing a quick search I can't find anything.  Does anybody else remember this controversy?  Nobody knew who these guys were at the time but they tried to claim they invented the white star on back background.  It was pretty silly.

The white start and black background was used in 1998 for an Argentinian band's 5th album cover too, so yes it was kinda popular around that time  :P

Please tell me if you think  I'm crazy but I always thought they got this concept from a bottle of perfume.  Ever see a bottle of Chanel No 5?   When I think of Chanel and perfume I think of hollywood.  When I think of hollywood I think of the star. Let's face it, Weiland was definitely well into fashion by then.  The font they used for where it says No 4 on the cover art is taken directly from the perfume bottle.  I always saw it as though they were implying the record to be like a bottle of fine perfume in an artistic sense.  Just do a simple google image search and you'll see what I mean.
