I've watched one or two of these. They aren't that great. I've watched them more for simply watching content about an artist I love(d).

I really wish Scott had gotten his act together for the long-talked-about VH1 Behind the Music.
If I remember correctly, VH1 had it slotted in their production schedule and Scott couldn't be bothered to show up.

Then again, what year was that? Was it towards the end?
If so, thinking back, I'm not so sure we needed a documentary with later-day Scott stumbling through his words to tell a story.

I miss the dude that was larger than life.

Scott Weiland / Re: Scott Weiland + Natalie Maines - Rhiannon

He also said Scott laid vocals for a Velvet Revolver reunion track that Dave Kushner had sent over in 2012 (around the time Scott started talking about a VR reunion). He said he has the track but he thought it was ‘dog shit’ and he said he won’t be leaking it. Interestingly the track (with Scott’s vocals) was also sent to Slash at the request of Scott’s manager but Slash didn’t get back to them.

Hmm. Did he elaborate on the 2012 VR demo?
I wonder if it was shitty due to Scott not putting his best foot forward or if Doug felt the song itself was just not good.

Not that it would have necessarily been the make or break point, but if the song WAS indeed lousy, I suppose it could have helped cement Slash's stance that they wanted nothing to do with Scott anymore.

He also said "If Only I Could Fly" and "You Are My Hope" were both recorded, the latter being an outtake from SLDD.

Oooh. That’s a new development.

That was an interesting listen. Thanks for sharing that link.

Thinking about the "Mairzy Doats" lyrics. Is this something that would easily corrected through co-writing credit or sample clearance or the like (i know it's not a sample of the actual old recording by The Merry Macs).

It'd be great to include it on a 25th anniversary set - even though that's some time from now.

Also, Chateau Mars has always been listed as a rough mix. I remember it sounding pretty harsh to put it nicely. Does anyone know if this was multi-tracked at any point, in which it can be officially mixed?

Perdida (2020) / Re: Which song from Perdida is your favourite?

On another note, I’ll always have a soft place in my heart for everything these guys do, but this album has been the hardest for me to get into...and that includes their non-STP work.

I love their softer side as well. I thought Art/Letting Go and Thought She’d Be Mine were fantastic songs. Nothing here comes close to those, IMO.

Maybe it’s a grower. I just don’t find myself coming back to it often.

Why the hell hasn't Eric written a song since a co-writing credit for No Way Out?  That was roughly 21 years ago.  He was showing lots of potential after writing Trippin' and getting tons of writing credits on Talk Show.
Good question.
Also interesting to note that songs on Perdida were either written by Dean and Jeff or Robert and Jeff. I found it interesting that the bros don’t have any shared songs.

I don’t have anything to add at the moment, but that was a cool trip down memory lane.
Oh the so many moments that could have been in this band’s career.

I hope they keep the faith. It's easy to feel beaten down and be like "F-this".

On Tour / Re: Stone Temple Pilots opening for Nickelback on Summer Tour
« on: January 22, 2020, 10:14:01 PM »
There were maybe 5 replies I wanted to quote and speak to after my last post, but for simplicity's sake I'll just say that I honestly believe that STP would be better launching a small club and bar tour where they'd pack the house with old and possibly new fans than they would touring with Nickelback.

Sponge does this and they've never gone out of vogue at the appropriate level and have actually built a grassroots following from it.

I think the logic of the acoustic tour is something like that, but they likely need the Nickelback tour to keep the money coming in for 2020. I think the acoustic tour is really something they're doing for the longtime fans.

Sponge has played some awfully tiny places in my neck of the woods. We're talking Wildabouts small.
...and I like Sponge. I just can't imagine STP doing that.

I agree that I prefer the headlining shows over the opening sets but I don't know how well that would contribute to them broadening their fanbase at this point. So I can understand why a tour like this summer's is the move, both financially and perhaps new audience.

The timing is questionable though, as said before, considering they'll be pushing an acoustic record. Or maybe "Perdida" isn't so much acoustic as it is just less heavy. And so with that in mind, they're always prone to throw in a softy in the set. Maybe it'll just be whatever the single off "Perdida" this summer is.

Yep, it was due to the "Blow up the Bitch" line if I recall correctly?

"Blow up the bitch with the firecracker smile" --> what a swagalicious line!

I feel like AIC has done a better job at "preserving their legacy".

But truthfully, new audiences are what the band needs, so if this is another way to go about it, then it's better than resorting to county fairs.

Aside from plugging the respective release dates, I can’t remember any post-reunion singles getting significant airplay. And even today, STP gets plenty of radio play, but it’s always the early stuff.

This is true too. If it isn't off of Core or Purple they don't play it. One in a blue moon you'll here Trippin', but that's it. Even Sour Girl doesn't get airplay and that was "the rock song of the Summer" back in '00.....

A friend of mine works in media analytics. I've asked him "if a radio station is slotted to play an STP song, why can't they play ANY STP song? Why does it always have to be selected from a few early singles?" and he basically chalked it up to "those are the songs people know. a new single from that same band is equal to a new song from a new band and the audience is more likely to change the station rather than stick around to listen." I hated that answer, but I suppose it makes sense with stations' fear of losing listeners and where ratings are probably more important than ever.
