A Scott Weiland Biopic Is in the Works

Scott Weiland’s life is headed to the big screen.

On Monday morning, Dark Pictures and Orian Williams announced they acquired the book rights to the Stone Temple Pilots/Velvet Revolver singer’s Not Dead & Not for Sale memoir and will turn it into a biopic. The film, titled Paper Heart, will be written by Jennifer Erwin.

“It’s an honor to have the trust to tell Scott’s story and the ability to portray the lesser known sides of him – the loving and tender man he was, the high school athlete he was, the melancholy soul he was and the legendary frontman that he will always be,” Erwin said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.

“Scott was glamorous, complicated and wounded. His childhood had a big effect on his struggles with addiction,” Dark Pictures’ Anne Beagan told THR in a statement of her own.

Williams said that the film will include previously unreleased Weiland music. David Vigliano, who represents the Weiland estate, said that this “felt right” for a biopic to be made about the singer.

Weiland died at the age of 48 in December 2015 from an accidental overdose.

This may be a reason as to why Doug has been digging up old and unreleased tracks.

As to who could actually play Scott in this...I don't know.  They would have to be a pretty dynamic actor.

I hope they focus on him as a person and not just his demons or even his music.  He was a good man but broken.

This things tend to get better with age (Ray and Cash movies). I guess you need to beat the Cornell estate to market, but otherwise it would be good to give it 15 more years. Hope it turns into something semi-special and not rushed.

Any realistic or crazy I ideas for who will play the many wives of Weiland?

I think Owen Wilson as Eric Kretz should be a given

Clint's handsome son Scott Eastwood as far as looks would be a really good choice to play another Scott! Agewise, at 35 would probably be able to pull of a believable 25 year old with some make up the 40's Scott, should the film focus on latter years too.

I hope so too. For maximum effect though, hope they can get the rest of the band to sign off on music.

Thinking about Val Kilmer playing Jim Morrison...I believe he was at least 30 or so at the time, playing an early 20's Jim. Makeup works wonders more than ever before.

Watched the Door movie, with Kilmer, last week and while watching was thinking that they could easily do one on Scott, he lived the classics rock star life.

Cool to hear, hope its done well and the bands let music be used

I always thought something along the lines of ‘Amy’ or ‘Montage of Heck’ would be better suited to tell the life story of Scott. More of a feature length documentary featuring his music (of course) but also him telling his story in his own words using audio and video from interviews and perhaps unreleased home video footage (if available). He also kept a journal and wrote poetry which could be included in some way.

That’s just something I’ve always kind of thought about since he passed away, more than a biopic. However, with this apparently being based directly off his memoir then I guess it will still be his story in his own words, we just need to hope they can find the actors and director to pull this off. I remember thinking how amazing a biopic of the life of Tupac Shakur would be until one was finally released and it was AWFUL. It’s another example of where I find myself going back to the film ‘Tupac Resurrection’ which, again, is an official feature length documentary film where he tells his life story in his own words etc. It featured his original music and lots of interviews as MTV helped make it.

So yeah, I look forward to ANYTHING Scott related but I’m always cautious setting expectations too high when it comes to a ‘biopic’, I’ve seen some good ones and some really bad ones over the years. The news of unreleased music featuring in this upcoming film is obviously awesome news too but I hope we hear LOTS of the music he released throughout his entire career all over this film!

The Resurrection doc was very well done, whereas All Eyez On Me was disappointing, so I can see where you're coming from there, but there are some really good music biopics out there. Hope this one lives up.

One of the best written and most detailed Weiland pieces I’ve read online in years, clearly the author of this article is a fan.

Thanks for sharing that. Good read.
I can do without that little Chester and Jeff bashing bit, but a true Scott fan, through and through.
