New STP album out in September!

Dang... After posting this interview in the other thread, I saw this thread title and thought it was official confirmation.

It's great to hear the album's finished, but I'll take the September release with a grain of salt. Dean doesn't seem entirely sure, and I don't know that Rhino would release both the new album and Purple's reissue in the same month. On the other hand, that may actually be a terrific marketing idea to use the added attention for their old album to sell the new one.

Anyway, whatever the case I imagine we'll see the new album by the end of the year.

Awesome! I've always loved the band playing acoustic. Hopefully this gives Jeff a chance to come more into his own as well. Good that they're not pigeon-holing themselves. Looking forward to some new melodies...

Not from the interview. Spoke to the band again today. Album is coming soon, looks to be a September release hopefully, no date set as far as I know. Album title and songs still under wraps.

Rik, did you happen to ask them who is producing new album? Hoping they learned their lesson with last album and went back with Brendan O’Brien. Way off the subject, but does anyone know why they’ve never played on Saturday Night Live since 1993??? Thinking it would spark a lot of interest in the band.

There's no way Brendan is producing their acoustic album. I doubt he'll ever produce an STP record again, but if he does it won't be an acoustic one.

I didn’t ask about production. At this point I’m assuming they will self-produce everything.

Awesome news about the September release. I hope it's so.

On one hand, I can see how reissuing a classic like Purple can maybe help garner interest in a new record, but I can also see the flip-side of how they might cannibalize each other.
