Chester Reunites for One-Off
« on: February 17, 2016, 08:22:40 PM »
Hell yeah! http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/stone-temple-pilots-to-reunite-with-chester-bennington-for-from-bach-to-rock-charity-concert/

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS will reunite with singer Chester Bennington for a one-off performance at "From Bach To Rock", a star-studded event to benefit Palos Verdes Peninsula public schools on March 26 at the Norris Theater and Pavilion in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.

"From Bach to Rock" is an intimate concert, bringing rock stars together with world-renowned classical musicians, taking you on a journey from 17th century to the modern hits of today, all in the spirit of benefiting Palos Verdes Peninsula public schools (proceeds to be donated to the Peninsula Education Foundation - PEF). The event will offer a one-of-a-kind concert, auction, and an epic red carpet after-concert party fit for any rock star. All musicians involved with the event are contributing their time, energy and musical talents in an effort to benefit public education by helping fund programming supported by PEF, including school music, physical education, library and STEM programs, safe school counselors, academic and career counselors, and teacher salaries.

Awesome! I will own it... I've stated before I wasn't a fan of cheSTP because of the timing, and I felt it was done in distaste to Scott at the time... but Chester can sing these tunes really good, and I really would have loved to see him come on board now, instead of singer auditions...

High Rise was rushed, and it sounds like every bit of it... these four could have possibly created some really good stuff. I'm glad to see they are on good enough terms to do something like this. I don't want to take anything away from LP fans, but it would be cool if those guys felt like taking a vacation for awhile and it allowed Chester to do a solid STP tour or two for a couple years.

Might be busy that weekend.  Also I saw CheSTP about 4 times I think and it was generally the same set every time give or take 2-3 songs, so I might prefer to sit it out until there is a new singer/album, unless there was an interview opportunity that would make it worth my while to go.

Once again, you feel almost precisely as I do. The biggest flaw I hear and possibly the only real flaw in the EP, is that it sounds rushed. But under the circumstances, it was understandable. If Chester ever came back, I would be down with that.

I think musically the EP sounds pretty good.  The music and Chester's voice is enjoyable, but I think Chester's lyrics are shit.

This is interesting. Given what we know now, (that they plan to continue on, looking for a new singer and carrying on with the name STP), there seemingly has been some warmth to Chester's brief time in STP.

Hypothetically speaking, if he came back, would you welcome him back? Or do you prefer the audition process that is underway?
STP: 07.31.00 | 08.04.01 | 10.24.01 | 04.23.02 | 10.11.02 | 05.31.08 | 09.05.10
SW: 11.30.11 | 03.12.13 | 08.29.14 | 03.10.15
VR: 05.28.04 | 05.18.07 || AoA: 02.01.07
CheSTP: 09.06.13 | 04.25.15 | 09.20.15 || JeffTP: 07.28.18 | 09.15.19

I would... I really hope there's some chance it could still work. I honestly feel like there could have been others that got the vibe I did while he was in the group... that it was just being done to spite Scott... I think it would be a totally different ballgame now though. The dude can sing these songs well, I don't think too many people ever tried arguing that he couldn't.

Chester is the best fit for STP to roll on, however I'm afraid the train may have left the station...

Well, we know that his "availability" hasn't necessarily changed, especially with a new LP album scheduled for later this year.

But I'm curious what the general consensus is.

No.  If he's the singer, it just means greatest hits tours for a couple months at most per year with some festival gigs with no real new music outside of maybe a new song here or there.  I'd rather hear new albums.

You know, I actually listened to "Black Heart" the other day. It's a strong song, really. It would've been great to hear Scott on it. It's a fantastic riff. It hits right out of the gate with that super catchy riff. It's definitely got a bit of a self-titled vibe, sounds a touch like Hazy Days. It was just interesting to listen to, because I think it really showcases that the band (STP) can make Chester (or someone else) sound good. I don't know, it just said a lot about their musicality in that instant when I happened to hear it come on in my car. Still, would've been amazing to hear Scott on it.

I also concur with this.

I wish he would just finish the album they started so we could all hear what they were up to. All that talk about how "heavy" it was going to be got me interested in at least seeing where they were going.
