No. 4 is such a fun album to listen to while driving or working out.

I think Down, Heaven and Hotrods and Pruno would all be hits today.

I don't get the new metal references at all.  Its just a balls out rock record with some amazing acoustic songs in it as well (No way out, Sour Girl).  I think it would have done substantially better than self titled, but some of you guys are right rock is not in the mainstream right now.  So I think it would have done better but nothing crazy.  I do think "Down" would have gotten them substantial rock radio play if it was released recently though.  Self Titled songs were to soft by my stations standards to get huge play on my local Rock Radio Station, but "Down" and "Heaven and Hot Rods" for instance I think could have got substantial play on Rock Radio.  Just like AIC did with Check my Brain and like Soundgarden probably will when their album is released.  They played between the lines just because it was new stp, but it wasn't heavy enough for hard rock radio. Which is the reason why you never hear them play it anymore on Hard Rock Stations.

I agree but it does add to exposure and success of an album.  In the 90's rock radio was great by the way.  Rock Radio right now is just not the style of music I prefer.  Always remember this though, music is an objective art, thats why argurments on what is best etc are pointless.  Its all a matter of personal opinion.

I hope they go back and get brenden o brien or some other great rock producer to work with.  ST was missing some of the magic dust.

I thought Sour Girl was a bad choice for a single. I remember MTV did a making the video and everything for it.

Scott Weiland said in his autobiography that Sour Girl was apparently their highest ranking single to date.... so that would mean there is some worth to the song. I would argue it was a bad single just because it misrepresented the rest of the album. It's the kind of song that middle aged women could listen to, then when they go to buy No. 4 they're mainly horrified, haha.
Do you like STP? Check out my band! We're heavily STP-influenced. http://dropdeadsixtymusic.bandcamp.com/
