I was looking at ordering the show tonight.
I have a Firestick. No Nugs app. They used to have a partnership with QELLO, but not anymore.

Question. If I watch it on my tv from the web browser, will i experience any out of sync issues or poor video quality?

I really prefer to watch on my tv rather than phone or tablet.

Scott Weiland / Re: Trouble Coping with Scott’s Death
« on: July 24, 2020, 09:14:24 PM »
I don't recall a "celebrity death" hitting me as hard as Scott's did. In my circle of friends, I'm the STP guy, so when that happened, my phone was blowing up as if it had been someone I knew personally.

The same denial that's described above is shared by me and probably many others. Heroin didn't do him in during the 90's, so this guy will probably be one of these rockers that despite the hard drugs, he'd come out on top. When I think about stories about guys like Aerosmith or Mick & Keith, and how they managed to clean up (for the most part), I really thought when it was all said and done, Scott would be filed under these "survivor" stories. I was wrong. He was wrong. We all were.

A few months ago when Doug was doing his videos, there was a lot of insight that had me shocked that he "lasted" as long as he did. Hearing Doug recount some of these stories was jaw-dropping at times. As he relived some of those stories, I did too, in a way.

I still feel it from time to time, but there are some trigger points that are stronger than others.
I'm super happy for the guys in STP now, but having seen them up there with Jeff has been bittersweet. Not being critical, just honest.

There's something to be said about the distinguishable voice though.

In a time when so many bands sound similar - whether style or sound - as you look back at the timeless icons, they are hardly ever mistaken for someone else. Whether or not you like voices like Corgan, Ozzy, Geddy Lee, Bob Dylan, Axl - you know it's them when they come on.

Richard has just confirmed on an Instagram Q&A that a new Army of Anyone song called ‘Summer Child’ is being worked on. He said he has sent the track to Ray Luzier who currently has it and then he’s going to get Robert & Dean to play on it.
It sounds like it’s just a one off track though since he played a few clips from new Filter songs and that seems to be his real focus. Perhaps the Army of Anyone collaboration song will also end up on the new Filter record as a special track? Still, it’s great news.

I mean, that's cool and all, but the best AoA songs, in my opinion of course, were the ones that had the Deleo songwriting fingerprint all over them. So if Richard is writing a tune simply for the others to play on, I'll take it from the perspective of reopening that door, and hopefully get more.

I sure hope it leads to more, a lot of us were asking him AOA related questions on the live q&a so he knows we all loved the project. It sounded more like a one off favour sort of thing though, he knows they’re tied up with STP at the moment. He said he keeps in touch with them though so you never know, maybe it could lead to something more.

Yeah, and let me rephrase - any AoA is better than no AoA, so I welcome it, undoubtedly.

In fact, I've always felt that a good portion of songs from Anthems For The Damned had an AoA vibe to them - stylistically and thought that maybe Richard's time with the Deleos rubbed off on the album that followed.

I'll keep an eye out for this.

I wonder if Scott was just doing one or two vocal takes for ‘Blaster’?
His voice sounds quite gravelly on that album but I still think it’s a decent performance and I personally love the album. The only song that sounds like it’s heavily edited vocally (almost sounds auto tuned) is ‘Circles’ really.

I believe Doug addressed this in one of his recent videos. In HIS past with Scott, in the early days, Scott would churn out multiple takes. I want to say he spoke specifically of Self-Titled when saying that Scott would record one and a half takes. Not even two takes of each song, and so Doug had to do his best with limited tracks.

In his story, Doug said the Deleos got really mad at him, like "How can you submit this to us?" and Doug said that he couldn't get Scott to sing more takes cuz Scott would record a take or so and be like "Ok, that's done".

For what it's worth though. Scott has always been a singer that layers a lot of vocals. I've always loved that about him. So when he was doing 1-1/2 track per song, it was likely that he was still laying down multiple runs of a song, just different parts for it.

Scott Weiland / Re: When did Scott blow his voice out?

To add to my point above, a song that I really like and wish had a better sounding Scott is "Circles".

Over the years, his voice got weaker and more nasally. I'd attribute that to the long-term nasal septum damage of substances. I'm sure snorting took its toll and perhaps any cocaine-drip that occurred also contributed.

Perdida (2020) / Re: New STP album out in September!

As soon as I hopped on here and saw "Re: New STP album out in September!", I was like "WHOA! No Way!".

Silly me to think we were getting a Shelter-In-Place new album from the boys.

In the 90's, Billy Corgan's voice didn't bug me.
It was part of that whole Pumpkins sound.
After Adore, I kinda stopped following.
It wasn't until the Zeitgeist album that I really felt his voice was detracting from what could be a really great record. I thought musically, there was some really cool stuff on that album, if I remember correctly (it's been a few years). It left me feeling like "maybe Billy should hook up with a singer". gasp!

I'm sure there are other bands that fall into this category for me, but the Pumpkins were one that came to mind easily.

Perdida (2020) / Re: Did Perdida recapture the STP magic?
« on: June 11, 2020, 02:22:26 PM »
Most of how I feel is mentioned above.
As Lovemachine said, it's been the hardest one to get into for me. I still enjoy a good portion of it, but if "reclaiming the magic" is the question, then I'd say it didn't do it for me.

And yes, Scott was next level; he came from a place that not many writers come from today. Sadly (for Jeff), the comparisons will be there until they've been completely shed with a masterpiece of the record...and even then, they'll probably still be.

The lyrical critique above by ComicJohn is on point. I subscribe to that very feeling. It's very black & white and can use some more color.

With all that said, I didn't feel this way as much on Butterfly. I think there are some really fantastic songs on that album, so I believe they are capable of continuing to amount a great collection worthy of the Scott years. I hope they keep on keepin' on. I've loved the music this band has created in all of its incarnations. And while I've enjoyed the Deleo's works elsewhere, I'd rather have JeffTP than no STP.

Anyone in this thread go to the STP/RHCP 2000 concert? I went to that tour at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, Ca. I remember that show pretty well. I do recall that when RHCP played their big hits, they didn't really move much on the stage while STP/Scott was dancing all over and felt more action packed. Both bands had some cool visualization on the background screen. Also a great concert from STP since they were promoting No.4. Down was definitely one of the highlights of the night! Just an overall rockin' awesome memorable show!!  8) 8) 8)

This tour was my first STP live experience.
I never caught the Tiny Music Tour, and almost had a chance when they were rumored to open for Kiss in 96.

Anyway, a short opening set for the Peppers but they were outstanding.

I tried catching them as often as I could the next few years. They were killer live in those days.

44
Remembe when STP opened for RHCP in 2000 and many reviews stated STP blew RHCP out of the water?

I was there for one of these and can attest to that.

And I like the Peppers too but STP was a tough act to follow on that tour.

Chili’s always sounded empty to me, live. So when they brought on Josh as a second live guitarist it really improved.

"You always were my favorite drug, Even when we used to take drugs"

I've read this on here before, where people blast this lyric.
I actually don't find anything wrong with it.

The level of addiction to Mary (assuming it's Mary) was an infatuation beyond any drug he's ever craved.
I'm cool with that notion - especially when, by all accounts, he was crazy for her.

As for the rest of Between the Lines, i'm pretty sure he said in an interview that the lyrical approach was a "I Am The Walrus" vibe, in which words sound phonetically interesting rather than the meaning itself.

For every argument that the "Peace" album had filler lyrics, there are some gems in there.
