Scott Weiland / Re: Scott Weiland found Dead

In light of all the Mary-bashing that's some people feel is necessary, let's remember better days:

Absolutely beautiful performance IMO

I've been reading Fall to Pieces (Mary's book) the last few days and I have to say all this letter feels like to me is an extension of the Scott stories in that book. I think she's being extremely genuine with her feelings in the letter. In the book, (I guess in hindsight after Scott's death it's easier to see), but there's just so much foreshadowing of what ultimately happened, this letter just falls into continuity with the book...

One point is that, though there are two sides to a story, and whether Mary truly wants to capitalize monetarily off Scott (still), isn't it odd the last part of her letter is basically condemning making profit of someone in death, and using that money to better the well being of a family?

"Let's choose to make this the first time we don't glorify this tragedy with talk of rock and roll and the demons that, by the way, don't have to come with it. Skip the depressing T-shirt with 1967-2015 on it – use the money to take a kid to a ballgame or out for ice cream."

While I think emotions can run high on this forum as we all loved Scott, I think there are some in denial here about his actions. No doubt, Scott loved Mary and his children (and vice versa). But the man also had been in a fog for a few years now too...I'm sure there's another side to it, but I don't doubt the things Mary has said. Scott dug himself deeper and deeper down a hole with alcohol and whatever else (if anything) he was abusing. There's so much contradictory information coming out right now (Mary, Scott wanting VR to reunite, coke found on bus, etc.) it's hard to form a strong opinion. No matter how much Scott WANTED to be there, his addiction and bad desires found a way to prevent him from doing that. It's not Mary's fault that's for sure. And maybe she moved away with the kids because he drove her away? Maybe she felt like she needed to so she could distance herself from his inevitable fate (in hindsight). Not saying that's the case, but one should consider all options, no matter how hard it is b/c of the loss of Scott, who we all love and respect and want to think of in the best light. But he was a human being - and we all have flaws and make mistakes. And a human being with anything but clarity in his head the last few years...

And after all, while she may sound angry, she has every right to be. How can people be so shortsighted to all of a sudden call this woman evil and bitter? It may seem like the wrong timing to post this in some of our minds - we're all sensitive to the loss of Scott - but in the end, NONE of us knew him like she did. For god's sake they were married and in love for many years and she's the mother of his children! Besides, with all the enabling and ass-kissing that was happening in his life in the last couple years, maybe it's a good thing she posted this in the fashion she did. Yes, maybe it's unfair to Scott and a little angry in tone, but imagine how she feels right now...I'm sure anger, amongst many other emotions, is going through her head.

Scott said it himself years ago in that Esquire interview. Heroin led him to feel like he was holding onto his former self dangling over the edge of a cliff, and he could feel his former self slip away. Over the years, with the relapses, and the drinking and abuse of meds, constantly trying to numb himself rather than deal with the mess his life had become, I think his former self finally lost grip and fell off that cliff years ago...

Not to mention, while he paraded around with the Wildabouts, faking his big excitement about it being his first project since Core he was so excited for, while singing and acting indifferently on stage, like he couldn't be bothered. He was actually talking to Chris Kushner last month and really wanted VR to get back together (I guess it signified a period of stability in his life, almost like a cry for help). That and what Mary said in this letter about Scott calling her up over the last few years, at night upset he couldn't get out of his bad situation surrounded with bad people and choices. It seems to me like any glimmer of the real Scott, like Mary said, just gave up somewhere along the way. Perhaps there was but a glimmer left, but now it's gone forever, and that is the biggest tragedy.

Mary Weiland. Pretty sad. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/scott-weiland-s-family-dont-glorify-this-tragedy-20151207

Damn...and all this time you thought he really was trying to be there for his kids through these last few years of personal turmoil. It's truly saddening they weren't invited to his wedding and that they hadn't even been inside his new home with Jamie...

Dream line-up for Scott's next project:

Scott Weiland - vocals
Dave Navarro - guitar
Nick Oliveri - bass
Joey Castillo - drums

Man that would be fucking cool...Scott and Dave writing amazing rock songs together with that powerful ex-QOSTA powerhouse rhythm section. And if Scott only gave up smoking and drinking, took the rest of the year off and came back with this band  :o  (Wildabouts are cool, Blaster is ok, AOA is ok, but this is for example the kind of high quality band that Scott should / could be playing with)

I sent this link to Scott's manager and a link to this discussion. Someone needs to help him I'm legitimately scared, as you should all be... The manager by the way read all my messages again but didn't respond...

Let me also add that although he might have sounded better two nights ago, last night went beyond just monitor issues. And even when I saw him in Hollywood, while he sounded ok, he looked completely dulled and he moved around in a strange manner...as if he has aged a ton. Sort of shaky and weird...

Also is Joey Castillo really a heroin user? Any links to support that? Open to believing it if it's true, but I've only heard that here.

Hi everyone,

None of you may know me but I'm a huge STP fan and I've been reading this forum for quite a while now, I rarely post though (finishing high school, don't have a lot of time haha). I've seen STP w/ Chester recently in LA and Scott at his listening party in Hollywood a few weeks back.

Anyway, I saw these videos and immediately came here where this thread had already been started. I have Richard Patrick's phone number and I sent that video to him, so first let's put out any rumor that he stalks this forum haha. You can choose to believe me or not but I FaceTimed with him late last year as an opportunity to watch him record the new Filter record. Anyway, once I saw those videos I sent them to him (perhaps naively) thinking that he is in a position to talk to someone who can talk to Scott to get through to him. I also messaged Scott's manager on Facebook to which he has read all my messages, but not responded (I included a link to this forum and to the videos from Youtube). As a younger, but longtime STP/Scott fan, it pains me to see him like this as I still root for him, as I'm sure we all do no matter how divided as a fanbase we are. Also, being younger, his kids are only a few years younger than I am, and seeing him in such bad shape makes me ache for his kids. So please guys, let's rally together and try and get through to Scott. Message his manager on Facebook with messages of support / concern and let's see what happens. It's now or never...this is not a game anymore, Scott is playing with some lethal fire...

I think something ugly really went down with Scott and the rest of the band...in the KROQ interview with Chester, he praises Scott and wishes him the best, but the way he says it...I mean Scott was his idol, obviously Scott sings like shit these days and really has to take a rest and reassess his lifestyle, but the way Chester talks about Scott is so weird and reserved as if he now knows about Scott's firing and it's changed his perception on Scott - someone he previously viewed as his idol. We could be looking at a possible relapse in the mix here people...

This is the best thing for the band right now, although I'm a little uncomfortable with the same name, as Scott really personifies STP. I'm a huge (old) Linkin Park fan too, before they started abusing Pro Tools loops. Then again, Weiland isn't the same anymore

I highly doubt it was drugs, or even drinking as he looks pretty healthy recently. I think it was a mixture of the self-titled being weaker than everything they had put out pre-VR, burning themselves out playing hits night after night on tour, and Scott impulsively quitting VR and fucking up his relation to that band, only to want to rejoin now. He shot himself in the foot with Velvet Revolver, and with STP it's just not meant be under the current status/dynamic within the band. Shocking though still that it's official.

I'm stoked. It seems like STP won't be doing anything for at least the next 2 years I feel, they just burned themselves out HARD. And the self-titled just didn't carry on that musical growth Scott talked about in the other interview, it just sort of fell flat after a few months. At least Scott gets it, and hopefully his solo record kicks ass and is a rawer, heavier rock record.

Just saw this...he definitely didn't seem straight, but I thought when he was busted for heroin he had red hair and it was in the middle of the 12BB tour?

His new fiancée looks very nice, happy for him. But yeah I agree, he looks happy, but very aged...must have been all the drinking catching up with him from the past few years, hopefully he's doing better and can get himself into healthier physical shape
