Alice In Chains - ‘Rainier Fog’ (8/24)
« on: June 30, 2018, 06:58:07 PM »
Thought I’d start a thread to discuss the new AIC album which is due out 24th August. I’m really looking forward to it as I enjoyed the last two with Duvall.
2 singles released so far... They’re good but I’m hoping for even better songs on the record.

Tracklist
1. The One You Know - https://youtu.be/352RBWh6ViU
2. Rainier Fog
3. Red Giant
4. Fly
5. Drone
6. Deaf Ears Blind Eyes
7. Maybe
8. So Far Under - https://youtu.be/qusV7bKsrAE
9. Never Fade
10. All I Am
Nothing matters again, I didn\'t think we\'d last that long

Really impressed with “so far under”. My first thought to it was “Alice in Chains is back!”

I really like black gives way to blue. The dinosaur album left me a little lost and I kinda tuned out from what they’ve been up to lately, but I’m excited to hear more of this new album.

Caught them on the BGWTB tour, immense show.

I really love Sean Kinneys work. I'm not a percussionist or any kind of expert but, for me, he has both power and pocket. He's locked in. It was an experience seeing him live.

Massive respect to them for keeping their unique sound alive, hope the new record stands up.

So Far Under is kinda meh to me. I like The One You Know. Curious to see what they have done with this album. I really liked BGWTB but thought the Dinosaurs album was kinda a let down.

I think I’m one of the few people around here who preferred Dinosaurs to BGWTB, they’re both great albums though.
Yeah ‘So Far Under’ has a cool riff but the song is nothing groundbreaking, the verses sound very reminiscent to those in ‘Phanom Limb’, which was another (superior) song written solely by Duvall. Gotta give him his props on the solo though, he is an accomplished guitar player and it’s good to hear him doing lead vocals from time to time.
So far these 2 singles haven’t grabbed me the way songs like ‘Hollow’, ‘Stone’ or ‘Check Your Brain’ did but I’m hoping for good things from the other 8 songs on the record. Wonder why it’s only 10 tracks though? Perhaps there’s a few long ones?

they've gotten more sludgy with age. I love this band now more than ever.

Totally forgot about this album, not expecting much from what I heard but hoping it's decent

Couldn't disagree more on that one. Black Gives Way was a nice start but they really found their way for me on The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here. For me it's like comparing Facelift and Dirt. Both are great and stand on their own merits but Dirt just excels.

That said, I'm also excited for this new album. The songs haven't grabbed be as much as I like but there are some elements I really like and am interested to see how the album shapes up overall.

I'm hoping for more Phantom Limb/A Looking in View type songs. I wish they'd play those live more.

I didn’t realise but the track lengths are on wiki. The album is 53 minutes long with a fair few songs exceeding 5 minutes.

I thought The One You Know was meh, but So Far Under is way better. It sounds like a song off Dirt.

Same. I didn't like TOYK at all. So Far Under is a good tune. I hope there are better songs on the album, though.

I agree with someone else had mentioned that it kinda has that old school sound off of Dirt or even Facelift I think. Really like both singles so far! Doesn't sound like the other two LP's with DuVall. A nice dark heavy sound with the trademark AIC riffs and chorus! Can't wait to get this album!! Thumbs up all the way for me!

I found the last two albums to be excellent, and can't wait for this one.

I think TDPDH could have been much shorter though, the songs are almost all in the 5.30 to 7.00 range, but only because they repeat the same thing over and over. Most of those tracks could have been 2/3 of the length and been much better, it makes the whole album a bit turgid to listen to.
