I definitely agree that I wish they played more of Jeff's songs, but then I feel people would complain about them not playing enough old deep cuts. Like I said, they'll never please the die-hards.

Why I originally brought up the significance of the band's era is because I see other bands basically following this exact formula. I can admit STP is doing a few different things, but you just have your Plush people taking up most of the ticket purchasing and really not knowing that Jeff is not Scott.

Not many people are going to see Live, Bush, or Candlebox to hear the new stuff and I think STP does fall into this category. Tons of bands from this era went downhill in record sales once the Internet came on and STP is no different. Overall, I'm not for bands ignoring albums entirely, but this is their own fault as was mentioned.

At the Chicago show there was an older woman (proportionate to the crowd that was our age, I suppose) who was talking in the crowd near us and she had mentioned that she won tickets for the show, hadn't seen STP before and was glad that she got to, and that she should have done it a long time ago. This was cool.

But, it also seemed apparent to me that in her case she might've been vaguely familiar with some of the tracks but might not have even been aware of any lineup changes or anything like that. I nodded and smile - I didn't have much else to say that might've taken away from a good show for her.

I guess my main problem right now with their live shows is that you can either see them at a festival, or on a packaged tour (shorter setlist), their own full STP shows are rare. So we're pretty much stuck to getting shorter greatest hits setlist every show.

Who remembers when they used to break down mid-set for a 3-4 song acoustic mini set?
Those were the days. I'd love to see them get there again.

I remember this. I was at a show in Los Angeles in 1996 for one of the rare live performances of and so I know. STP was so great at the acoustic stuff but I'm happy that they took advantage of it during their live performances. I do hope that the news is true that they will be releasing at all acoustic album early next year

STP has never been the kind of band that goes into 90+min sets and as they get older I don't think they will.

Actually, I think most of their headlining sets since they broke up with Scott have been 90+ minutes. This last leg of headliners a couple weeks ago was one of the rare times that they played less than 90 minutes, and that seems to be because they were trying out the 75 min setlists for the co-headlining tour.

The issue isn't age, the issue is they can't seem to viably book tours that aren't co-headliners.

I remember most Core shows were 60-70 minutes.
Purple shows were basically 70 minutes exactly. The band faced a lot of criticism for this as the shows were considered short, but they did normally play the first ten songs from Purple each night.
The Tiny Music Tour had mostly 110 minute shows. I believe only 2-3 songs from Tiny Music were left off the typical setlist.

After that, things were sort of all over the place.

Yeah, they definitely weren't know for playing long sets with Scott.  But when Chester joined, they started off playing 90 minute sets, then in 2015 they started playing almost 110 minute sets. Then when Jeff joined they played a slew of 90-100 minute headliners...

So since the breakup they were pretty steadily playing long sets... Then they started doing co-headliners, and all that went out the window.

It's certainly not due to lack of material.

GNR is out there playing 3 hour shows with half the catalog. I know that's not a fair comparison, but just being silly.

No. 4 started with an opening stint on the RHCP tour. Short sets, of course. Once they moved back into their headlining spots, they kept it to about 20 songs, give or take.

With Chester, I remember seeing a 22 song set - which was probably an hour and a half.

This comes to mind as one of the longer Jeff sets:

It's a good mix of hits and deeper cuts, in fact, and had a good portion of new stuff.

I wish we could get something closer to this. 20 songs total, 4 of them new.
