Mark Lanegan and Scott Weiland
« on: April 29, 2020, 10:56:18 AM »
So I‘m reading Lanegan’s memoir that just came out (it’s great) and this little interesting tidbit of info came up - apparently he ran into Scott around 1995/1996 at a Buprenex clinic in LA...he mentions they had hung out fucked
up a few times and that he “sang on one of their records that was never released.” Now obviously STP released Tiny Music and as far as we know there are no b-sides (outside of talk show demos), so given the timeline and chemical circumstances lol I’d have to say Lanegan probably was talking about the Magnificent Bastards...but does anyone know anything further about this? Was this ever knowledge in the 90s?

I don't know about that, but in one of the Doug videos, as he was discussing Scott working with Limp Bizkit, he said Scott "did it all the time". He would write melodies for other bands/singers to sing - sometimes uncredited. I wonder what's out there that he wrote that we don't know about.

Never heard about this before... But it sounds like he's probably talking about The Magnificent Bastards. If I recall correctly, Lanegan's friend Chris Goss (from Masters of Reality) produced The Magnificent Bastards material. So I certainly think it's more likely that he was invited to record a track with the Bastards than it is that the DeLeos allowed Scott to bring a drug-buddy in on the Tiny Music sessions.

Anyway, Lanegan and Scott are two of my all time favorite vocalists. I would give major parts of my anatomy to hear them sing on a track together. Shame this fell through, whatever it was.
Grab the hate and drown it out...

I know it’s a long shot but is there any chance at all there’s an albums worth of unreleased music by The Magnificent Bastards??
This may have been shot down in the past but I can’t recall? Surely they recorded more than 2 songs together.
Nothing matters again, I didn\'t think we\'d last that long

Another connection between the bands (though not directly for this topic), is for those that don't know who Mark Lanegan is, he was the singer of Screaming Trees.  The drummer of Screaming Trees, Barrett Martin, played marimbas on Atlanta.
