some info from belowempty.com

Dean: "I have a story about [the ending of the song]. It was late in the session, in Atlanta; we were sitting around, the song was done a little too cliche, so Eric was saying, everyone was very tired, Eric suggested we needed to screw up the end of the song. We all sat up and agreed we were into that. About 7/8 into that end. It sounded like we were falling down stairs."

thats interesting, i never heard that quote. i love the ending how it sounds like the musics clipping over itself, probably due to some shitty drumming. i always thought it was on purpose though, which is cool... it sounds like grunge zeppelin

the words in this song are about a good friend of mine who royally fucked my ass

that quote comes from the audio recording of the San Jose gig on the TM tour of 1996... although the recording is heavy on the base, it is the only known soundboard recording from the entire tour.

I've always thought it was about a close friend of his who ran off with his first wife. Could be wrong, but I definitely think the theme is a friend of his who slept with either Janina or an ex gf of Scott's. Obviously he calls the guy a liar, maybe the lie was that he posed as a friend to Scott when really he wasn't.

When he says "I can hear when the pig whispers sweetly, jealousy is a weapon you kill me" - I think the "pig" is his friend, and he whispers sweetly to mask the fact that he's a pig. So Scott is fooled into thinking the "pig" is his friend, when really it's a jealous person striving for something Scott has.

The whole rolling back the days with my friend I love to play... I think counts back how the "friend" gained his trust and attained loyalty from Scott. They were little kids playing superman and shooting guns (slivergun probably points back to some specific memory of Scott's in childhood with this person).

Then he says, take a piece of my life, try to take my wife. I definitely think it was to do with the friend trying to steal a girl from Scott. Whether successful or unsuccessful, Scott felt backstabbed by the experience. That said, these could just be metaphors for backstabbing, so hard to say.

yeah i was just thinking about the "take my wife" line today... i dont know if that was meant literally or not, but it sounds pretty specific to me

Although it's hard for me to pick just one, I think Silvergun is probably my favorite STP song. It's absolutely flawless and Scott's lyrics are awesome. And yeah I agree with pretty much everyone it definitely seems to be about betrayal in some sort of relationship.
My STP shows: 8/10/2008, 7/19/2009, 10/10/2009, 5/22/2010, 4/26/2011, 4/24/2015   Weiland solo: 1/29/2009, 11/29/2012, 3/13/2015    VR: 8/5/2007

I recall seeing a topic a long time ago about something when you grumble you always walk with scum being heard on the song or something of that nature?  Anyone know anything about this?

Not sure what Jim2131 is talking about, but I do recall there being a topic about this before. I read it a long time ago...at one point in Silvergun Superman (or was it Lounge Fly??) you can hear Scott singing/mumbling something in the background that sounds like "grumble and scum" or something along those lines.

Exactly what I am talking about.  It was Silvergun, almost positive.  I could never find out where it was in the song though.  Anyone help please

It's Loungefly during the acoustic part of the song. Listen closely it's right before the last time of "She said she'd be my woman, she said she'd be my man."
