Scott Weiland on Sessions X
« on: November 12, 2014, 03:29:28 PM »
This seems really interesting:

"Ground-breaking production and exhilarating energy, Sessions X captures the raw, genuine, and uninhibited collaboration between producer and artist. In Season One, award-winning producer Gavin Brown teamed up with 18 artists across musical genres to craft their best.  Recording over 100 tracks, at the renowned Noble Street Studios, the Sessions X online series features new material from artists such as Gowan, Metric & Scott Weiland. Come into the studio for riveting, fresh and humbling performances - all in one take. Sessions X is music worth watching."

That looks sooo fucking amazing. I'm just curious as to why they picked Scott Weiland of all people?

Thanks for the heads up!  Looking forward to this.

Scott has always shined during these more intimate recording sessions. Especially in more recent years.

Sure, they're 5 years old now, but I really think the FOX 99.3 Uninvited Guest sessions were among his best performances in recent times.  http://youtu.be/oway7rlrj0o  Hopefully these new ones will be even better.

I didn't even know that existed. That sounded great.

I didn't even know that existed. That sounded great.

He did a few other songs during that session, all sounding great:

Interstate Love Song
- http://youtu.be/ae64AZhpDQM
Paralysis - http://youtu.be/CjfHCMjLufk
Killing Me Sweetly - http://youtu.be/QxYtmBcbsXg

He also did the same songs for this other radio station around that time; but threw in Atlanta which sounded pretty great too: http://youtu.be/QKJWVdinLyU .  But not at good as this vintage Atlanta: http://youtu.be/t6n2IOOXKEM

Basically... after all the years of abuse and despite his voice showing wear & tear during live shows, he always seems to sound amazing during these little acoustic sets.  It's a shame he doesn't record more acoustic songs, or do an acoustic set like STP used to do.  Just one more reason I'm excited to see this "Session X" thing.

Huh. That actually looks pretty damn interesting. I'm big into production and mixing and just that overall dimension of music. I've had studio time just to get away, not even record anything. It's another realm, and this show seems to look at it the same way I do. Scott is in some interesting company too, some of those other names that'll be on the show. Metric? The Beaches? Yeesh. Interesting crowd. That's cool though that he got the opportunity to do that, seems like it'll be a cool little gig.

Dear lord, I never got why people didn't like Doug, but he just shat all over that version of Paralysis. Dude always tried to make things more complicated than they should be and holy shit did that make me cringe. Would of sounded better with out him.

Scott is also featured in the recording studio's page:

http://www.noblestreetstudios.com/noble_clients.html

"Scott Weiland with producer Gavin Brown and engineer Lenny DeRose"

Alan Parsons is also listed as a client, and since Danny Thompson works with both, maybe that's how Scott got to do this sessions?

His performance of Waitin' for a Superman from those FOX Uninvited sessions has always been one of my favorites. I think I've had it on my ipod since shortly after the performance.

Sounds like you knew exactly why people didn't like Doug.

Yup. You just answered your own question. I never had a problem with Doug in-studio, I don't think many people on this board do. I loved Happy in Galoshes and thought he did great work with Scott on it, but live is another story...
When STP had a cookout after filming the video for the Core single "Plush," Weiland made jerk chicken that was "spectacular," Dean raves.

Yeah I saw them live with doug a few times and saw a bunch of videos live and what not, but I guess maybe doug was lower in the mix??  I can over look him not playing with the most emotion, hes more of a technical player. But it just sounded so damn stale on this paralysis. No emotion in his playing, mine as well use a drum machine, actually I've heard more emotion played with a drum machine. I guess I just really love paralysis and him butchering it made me cringe a little on an otherwise amazing version of the song.
